A Heap of Anime News Arrived During the Holidays

The winter break offer a wealth of pursuits far superior than catching up on the headlines: opening presents, getting stuffed on holiday treats, and using deep breathing to avoid snapping at loved ones. I hope you succeeded in enjoy all these things and more. That said, the world of entertainment doesn't take a break, and this is especially true for the realm of anime. Many exciting announcements came out during the break, and just in case you missed any, here is a roundup of the juiciest bits.

One-Punch Man Season 3 Is Set to Continue (Come 2027)

Without a doubt the biggest piece of news, the widely-criticized troubled production that was the third season of One-Punch Man proved insufficient to stop more episodes. Season 3 will return with a follow-up batch of episodes in 2027—a date so remote they easily could have dubbed it season 4. Adding to the surprise, the studio J.C. Staff will still be in charge. On a positive note this time, director Shinpei Nagai is set to direct from the beginning, which might be a good sign. But, the main art for the second cour is a mirror of the one used for season 3, just with protagonists Saitama and Garou facing different directions. This leads one to believe that, at this point, they must be trolling the fans.

The Ruri Dragon Series Is Set to Be the Premiere Shonen Jump Anime Produced By Kyoto Animation

Kyoto Animation has established a name for being an prestigious animation studio, making its mark not just for the exceptional quality of its productions but for the fair treatment of its employees—a uncommon practice in the industry. Surprisingly, until now, it had not adapted an anime stemming from a manga from Shonen Jump, arguably the most famous magazine in the industry. Ruri Dragon will change that, and what a excellent choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo became widespread acclaim when it launched in 2022 after just a few chapters, but then went into a lengthy break due to the mangaka's health issues. When it returned with a more relaxed pace, the series proved it maintained the fans' appreciation and goodwill, and now the community is overjoyed about the upcoming KyoAni adaptation.

Kingdom Season 6 Will Get a Sequel Now in the Works

Kingdom is the top-selling, epic Shueisha manga that is other than One Piece. If you've haven't come across it before, it's because it only recently got an English localization, but the anime has been going on for some time, and season 6 was yet another outstanding entry. As it happens that was just the initial batch, because a "sequel" has been confirmed as in development, and it will almost certainly premiere in 2026.

Science Saru Will Adapt A Witch in Mongolia To Anime

A further studio known for the artistic merit of its productions, Science Saru has brought us hit shows of the ilk of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, lastly, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be producing the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, which is based on the actual historical person of Fatima, an influential woman and thinker in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Based on the trailer, the anime named Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a truly original and fascinating visual style, which reminds me a bit of Ranking of Kings. Scheduled to launch in July 2026, this one will definitely be on my list of anticipated shows.

The Tougen Anki Series Will Continue With a Season Two

Immediately following the airing of the final episode of the first season, it was revealed that Tougen Anki will be securing a follow-up. Based on the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki adapts the manga by Yura Urushibara. The new season of the anime will cover the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a specific premiere date has yet to be revealed.
