Alleged Stalker Inquired: 'But Imagine I Might Be Madeleine?'

A woman indicted with stalking Kate McCann apparently left her a phone message which questioned: "imagine I am Madeleine?"

The defendant, twenty-four, who witnesses stated has persistently declared she was the vanished Madeleine McCann, and Karen Spragg are on trial accused with pursuing Kate and Gerry McCann from June 2022 and February this year.

On Monday, the court heard phone records and evidence obtained from phones documented Ms Wandelt consistently demanding Madeleine's mother for a DNA test during that period.

Madeleine's vanishing in 2007 - as a three-year-old during a vacation in Portugal - is among the most widely reported investigations and remains unsolved.

'I Don't Want Money'

Another phone message, shared in court, documented Ms Wandelt saying: "I realize I'm heavy and unattractive like Madeleine had been, but I know what I feel."

While a separate message of Ms Wandelt's one-way conversations with Mrs McCann's recording stated: "Suppose there is a slight possibility that I'm her? What then? Isn't that important for you?"

"I don't want money, I maintain a living here in Poland, I just want to discover," the recording stated.

The panel was told that by means of emails, text messages and phone calls, Ms Wandelt asked for a DNA test, sent childhood photos to her phone in a attempt to demonstrate a resemblance to Mrs McCann's vanished daughter, and stated to have "memories" from a childhood with the McCanns.

The investigator, a data specialist with Leicestershire Police who collated the information, informed the court there "didn't appear to be any replies" from Mrs McCann.

Ms Wandelt furthermore communicated with acquaintances of the McCanns, according to the phone records.

On October 9th, 2024, Mr McCann picked up a communication from Ms Wandelt to his wife's phone, saying she had "the wrong phone."

During that incident Ms Wandelt deposited a message on Mrs McCann's voicemail declaring "I won't give up and I plan to establish my claim."

The court was informed Mrs Spragg developed a relationship via internet with Ms Wandelt before joining her on a trip to the McCanns' home in that area in last December.

Communication data revealed Mrs Spragg had reached out via messaging service to Mrs McCann to state the media had characterized Ms Wandelt as "mentally unstable" but that she ought to be considered genuine in the period before the trip to the village, Leicestershire, in that winter.

The court was told message exchanges between the two defendants, in that autumn, discussing attempting to acquire Mrs McCann's genetic material from her garbage or from silverware at a eating establishment.

"We have to assert ourselves," Mrs Spragg informed Ms Wandelt.

On the night of the appearance to their house, the defendant sent a communication which said: "We find ourselves positioned near the McCanns' house with our vehicle dark like private investigators. I desired to achieve this with another person I hadn't anticipated I would be involved in this with the McCanns."
