The NFL franchise issued a statement Wednesday night indicating they have knowledge of claims of abuse circulated in social media posts by a former girlfriend of wide receiver the athlete and were in communication with the league office.
The organization omitted the name of Rice by name in their announcement and said they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.

The woman, who also did not mention the athlete by name, shared a set of images on social media that appeared to show signs of physical abuse. Jones stated the person involved was the father of her children, and it is known she has two children with the football player, whom the team drafted in the second round.
Official Complaints Reportedly Not on File
No police reports were available in Overland Park, Kansas where the alleged abuse is said to have taken place.
Rice's Recent Off-Field Troubles
The receiver was absent for the initial part of this NFL campaign following an NFL suspension for his involvement in causing a multi-vehicle accident on a Texas roadway that resulted in several individuals injured. Rice was given 30 days in jail and five years’ probation after entering a guilty plea to serious offenses.
On the field, he finished the season with 53 catches for 571 yards and five TDs as the Chiefs finished 6-11 and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first time in a decade.
