The Trail Blazers additionally won their initial match since the detentions, with Brazilian Tiago Splitter stepping in as interim coach in Chauncey's absence and guiding the squad to a decisive 139-119 victory over the Warriors.

"We all had great experiences with Billups and his coaching style," Splitter remarked. "We're thinking of him and his loved ones but we have a job to do."

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver 'Disturbed' over Recent Events

Speaking about the detentions for the initial occasion, league head Silver said he was "very upset" by the incidents of the past few days.

"There's nothing more important to the NBA and its fans than the fairness of the competition," he told Amazon Prime. "Therefore I had a pit in my stomach. It was disturbing."

Silver also mentioned an league probe into the player's actions in March 2023, when there was "aberrational betting" in a match he participated for the Charlotte Hornets against the Pelicans, discovered no wrongdoing.

"It was brought to our attention by the authorities and the betting companies," he added.

"We then looked into that situation and were very transparent regarding it. Although there was the unusual wagering, we, frankly, found no evidence.

"Federal authorities has legal authority... [it] can impose penalties, can do all kinds of things that the NBA is unable to.

"So, we've been cooperating since then. Naturally, what they revealed yesterday was an indictment.

"And two and a half years later, he still hasn't been convicted of any offense, in fairness to Rozier.

"Clearly, it appears unfavorable, but he's been suspended, and so it is a balance here between protecting people's rights and conducting an inquiry."
